How Beam handles your information โ in plain language.
Beam (the "app", "we", or "us") is an Android flashlight utility. It turns your device's camera LED on and off, and adds conveniences like shake-to-toggle, a home screen widget, a Quick Settings tile, a bright on-screen light, and an optional toggle sound. This Privacy Policy explains what the app does and does not do with information on your device.
Beam processes the following locally on your device only. None of it is transmitted off the device.
If you enable "Shake to toggle", the app reads your device's accelerometer in real time to detect a shake gesture so it can switch the flashlight on or off. These readings are evaluated momentarily and are never stored, logged, or sent anywhere. They reveal nothing about your identity or location.
The app declares the microphone permission for an optional voice-control feature that lets you turn the light on or off with a spoken command. The microphone is accessed only while that feature is enabled and active. Audio is used solely to recognize the on/off command and is not recorded, saved, or transmitted by the app. If you never enable voice control, the microphone is never used.
Your settings โ such as shake sensitivity, turn-on-at-launch, toggle sound, theme, and widget state โ are stored locally on the device.
Beam controls the camera's flash without taking pictures or reading the camera, and does not access your contacts, call logs, location, photos, or accounts.

All processing happens on-device and app data is kept in Android's private per-app storage, which other apps cannot read. Because nothing is uploaded, there is no server-side database that could be breached. You remain in control through Android's permission system at all times.
