How App Search handles your information โ in plain language.
App Search (the "app", "we", or "us") is an Android utility that helps you quickly find and launch any installed app on your device. The app maintains a local database of installed apps and allows you to search through them efficiently without switching between multiple screens. This Privacy Policy explains what the app does and does not do with information on your device.
App Search processes the following information locally on your device only. None of it is transmitted off the device.
To provide its core function of searching through your apps, App Search reads the list of installed apps on your device using the system's package manager. The app only accesses app names and package identifiers โ nothing else. This data is read-only and used solely to build a searchable index on your device. The app never transmits your app list anywhere.
When you search for apps, the app may optionally store recent search results and app open history to provide faster results. This history is stored in a local SQLite database on your device and can be cleared by you at any time. App open timestamps are used only to prioritize frequently-used apps in search results.
Your settings โ such as whether to auto-open a single search result, the theme (System/Light/Dark), and history options โ are stored locally in the app's private per-app storage on your device.
App Search can show its search box as a floating popup over your current screen using Android's "Display over other apps" capability. This is purely a way to draw the popup on top of whatever you're doing; the app does not read, record, capture, or access the content of your screen or of any other app. You can run the app without this โ if the permission isn't granted, the search simply opens as a normal screen.
App Search does not access your contacts, call logs, location, photos, microphone, camera, messages, accounts, or any personal data.
| Permission | Purpose |
|---|---|
QUERY_ALL_PACKAGES |
To read the list of installed apps on your device so you can search through them. The app sees only app names and package identifiers, read-only. |
SYSTEM_ALERT_WINDOW(Display over other apps) |
To show the search popup as a floating window over your current screen. A display feature only โ it does not read or capture screen content. Optional; the app works without it. |
REQUEST_DELETE_PACKAGES |
When you choose "Uninstall" from an app's menu, this lets App Search open Android's standard uninstall confirmation for that app. App Search never removes apps on its own โ you confirm every uninstall in the system dialog. |
INTERNET |
Declared in the package but not used to collect or transmit your data. App Search makes no network requests with your information and contacts no servers. |
ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE |
Declared in the package; not used to collect, profile, or transmit any personal data. |
The app does not request camera, microphone, location, contacts, call logs, or account permissions.
Information accessed by the app is used solely to provide its core function: maintaining a searchable database of installed apps, allowing quick app launching, and optionally remembering your search history and preferences. We do not use your information for advertising, profiling, analytics, or any purpose unrelated to the features you see in the app.
We do not share, sell, rent, or disclose your information to anyone. App Search makes no network requests with your data and contacts no servers, so your app list and search history never leave your device and are never sent to us or to any third party. No serversNo third partiesNo cloud
App data and search history remain on your device until you delete them. You can:
All processing happens on-device and app data โ your search history, the local app index, and your settings โ is kept in Android's private per-app storage, which other apps cannot read. Because nothing is uploaded, there is no server-side database that could be breached. You remain in control through Android's permission system at all times.
App Search is a general-purpose utility and is not directed to children under 13. It does not knowingly collect personal information from children. Since the app collects no data off-device and has no online component, it poses no data-collection risk to users of any age.
App Search does not integrate advertising networks, analytics SDKs, social login providers, or crash reporting services. It does not embed any third-party trackers or libraries that access your data.
Depending on where you live, you may have rights under privacy laws such as the GDPR, CCPA, or others. Since App Search does not collect or hold any of your personal data on our servers or any remote system, there is nothing for us to access, correct, export, or delete on your behalf โ full control rests with you on your device. You can access, modify, or delete all app-related data through your device's settings or by uninstalling the app.
We may update this Privacy Policy if the app's features change. When we do, we will revise the "Effective" date above and publish the updated policy at this address. Continued use of the app after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
